You can actually do that, I think, if you click on the preferences option on the news feed page.
@megan.. no, you can't. and honestly, the whole idea behind the stupid facebook feed is that you get info about people you want to get info about (ie, people you don't think are completely bad for you and that don't even feature in your real life anymore, let alone your facebook friends list.)
